To get started in paintball is not that hard. You will only need some basic paintball equipment and you will be ready to play. Like many sports it doesn't have to be expensive, you can spend as little or as much money as you want, depending on the paintball gear you choose.

Painball Guns or Markers
Paintball guns (also known as paintball markers) are the primary piece of equipment for the sport of paintball. They come in all shapes, sizes, makes and models, but to play you only need something that will shoot paintballs in a somewhat straight line. Paintball Mask
Paintball masks are for the the protection of your face and more importantly your eyes. A flying paintball can leave a small bruise if it hits your body, but a direct shot in the eye can blind you. This is a MUST, make sure your mask is approved for paintball and not just standard goggles, then use it as if your eyesight depended on it. This is the most important part of your protective gear, don't skimp on quality.

Paintball Loader or Hopper
Paintballs need to get into the chamber of your gun before you can shoot them and the best way to do this is with a paintball loader. Also known as a paintball hopper, the loader is a small container that connects to your gun and feeds paintballs into it, and can hold from 10 to a few hundred painballs.

Air Tank or C02 Tank
The propellant used to fire a paintball comes from compressed gas - either compressed air or compressed carbon dioxide (CO2). Guns require one of two kinds of compressed air tanks: small 12 gram tanks that also are used in BB/Pelet guns or larger tanks that screw onto the gun. A larger tank of CO2 or compressed air will be able to shoot hundreds of paintballs. And trust me, you don't want to run out of air when your in a firefight with an opponent.

Painballs
Other than paintball guns, paintballs are what make the sport of paintball possible. These little round containers of paint are loaded into your gun and then shot by the expansion of compressed gas. Many different brands and colors exist, and more expensive usually means a better ball. For a beginner though, they all perform about the same as long as they are not too old, so pick what looks good to you and use it. Be sure to bring enough to last as long as you want to play. Most the time paintballs can be bought at the field, however are usually more expensive when you need it right now.

Clothing That Matches Environment
Wherever you are playing paintball, colors that match your surroundings will help you hide. Any clothes will work, but it's easier to play when you don't stick out like a cat in the dog pound.

Water/Food/Snacks
After playing a few games of paintball, people get thirsty. Come prepared with more water & food than you think you need and if you are prone to hunger or low blood sugar, bring something to munch on between games, or a full meal for all day events.

Screw Driver/Allen Wrenches
Most simple problems with paintball guns can be resolved with a Phillips head screwdriver and the proper sized Allen wrenches. You may not always need them, but when you don't have them are the days you will.

Extra O-Rings or spare parts
O-rings wear out and blow at the most inopportune times. They are used on tanks and inside your gun. Keep a few spare parts with you, you can do your repairs and get back in the game.
